The area known to locals as “Wine Country” is comprised of several towns within Yamhill County. Beginning approximately 25 miles south of the Portland Metro area Wine Country includes Newberg, McMinnville, Dundee, Carlton, Sheridan, Amity and Lafayette.
Newberg is home over 22,000 people and its location provides numerous recreational opportunities. A short drive offers access to both Portland City Center and rural rivers and forests with boating, fishing, and hunting opportunities. World-class wine tasting is available throughout Yamhill County, which has the reputation of being the Napa Valley of Oregon. A one-hour drive east will take one to the Cascade Mountains for skiing, camping, fishing and hiking. A one-hour drive west will take one to the breathtaking views of the Pacific coastline, with its many beautiful beaches.
Situated in Yamhill County, McMinnville resides where the North and South forks of the Yamhill River and Willamette Valley meet. Surrounded by the small towns of Carlton, Dayton, and Amity, McMinnville is the largest town in Yamhill County and is often considered to be the heart of Oregon wine country. This charming town is surrounded by hills lined with vineyards, hazelnut orchards and wheat fields spreading across the Willamette Valley while Mt. Hood rises in the distance. It is consider a small, historic town with big city amenities and is an easy drive from Portland, the coast, and Oregon’s capital, Salem. Homes in the area range from historic bungalows to new construction with a large variety of vineyards, farms and horse ranches just outside of town.
